Mixin’ It Up: The Nixon

It seems like every time I turn on the TV or listen to the radio I’m instantly greeted by some blowhard telling me why one politician is better than another.  I don’t know about you, but I’m already tired of hearing about the candidates considering the 2012 election is still quite a ways off.  So I figured if we, as a nation, are going to be relentlessly inundated by the passionate opinions of others, then we may as well listen while we relax with a good cocktail.  This week I tried an interesting and timely concoction known as the Nixon.  The story goes that the Nixon was created in 1969 to mark the president’s visit to Great Britain.  While Nixon stayed at the hotel Claridge’s, this cocktail was mixed and sent over by the bartender at the American bar located nearby.  Here’s the recipe that was used.

The Nixon:

1 part Knob Creek Bourbon Whiskey

1 part Sloe Gin

2 dashes of Peach Bitters

Stir and serve on the rocks and garnish with a freshly sliced peach or a cherry.
