Long has it been since I’ve partaken in the universal college past time of consuming a liquor for the sheer fact that it’s exotically colored and neon hued. However, when someone gives you a chance to try something that no one outside of the closest knit test groups have been allowed to sample, you do it. Funny enough, this exact thing happened to me recently and having tried this mysterious mixture I’m going to give you all the inside track before this neon blue beverage either does or does not make it to market. Now I don’t know about you, but for me nothing says “drink me” like a Nuka-cola inspired blue colored concoction contained in a bottle marked “This is not for sale.” I’d love to tell you an interesting background story or anecdote about why this is a must buy product from one of the largest beer distributors in the world, but due to the subject matter at hand, I can’t. Instead, what I can tell you is that this is about as cloak and dagger an experience as far as something I’m willing to drink can get. The only way to describe the strange brew’s taste is powerful and potent. It is extremely sugary and the flavor reminds me of blue raspberry, also known as Whitebark Raspberry. If you have ever had a flavored malt beer like a St. Ides then you have a pretty good idea of how this tastes. I can honestly say that I for one would not be very excited to see this beer on the shelves as it is not very refreshing and is actually pretty tough to drink after a few good swallows. All in all it was a fun experiment, but as far as this beer being enjoyed by your average beer drinker is concerned, I think its back to the drawing board. However, who knows, there appears to be an ever growing market for alcoholic candy-like drinks and in that arena this concoction delivers in spades and regardless, in the end who can resist showing off their bright blue tongue, especially after a few drinks!
