While I was out and about walking through the congested Grafton Street shopping district in Dublin, Ireland, I discovered one of the greatest cigar shops I have ever encountered, The Decent Cigar Emporium. After passing through a small unassuming doorway and climbing a narrow stairway I entered a sophisticated and refined cigar superstore that boasted several large display cabinets overflowing with rare and exclusive merchandise. The shop had the aroma of Cuban coffee and espresso emanating from the quaint sitting room adjacent to the main sales floor. I was met by a gracious and helpful staff that cordially offered me a cup of the delicious coffee bean brew while I poured over the stores amazing content. The Decent Cigar Emporium is the finest cigar shop in Ireland and specializes in only the rarest and most limited run hand-made cigars available anywhere. They are also the main distributor of Cuban cigars in both Ireland and the United Kingdom. Needless to say, whether you are a cigar enthusiast or even if you only partake occasionally, visiting The Decent Cigar Emporium should be high on your bucket list.
To say that this shops merchandise is impressive is an understatement. The shelves are cluttered with exemplary products like La Gloria Cubana Cuban vases that were produced in runs of 2000 and boxes of Partagas Series D in collectible book shaped cases relegated to only 1000. With brands like Bolivar and hard to find sticks like the Cohiba Behike this is quite literally the Garden of Eden of Cuban cigars. As if the amazing stock and refined showroom weren’t enough, the proprietor, Guy Hancock, is truly a gentleman and a scholar in the wide world of fine tobaccos. Just recently, he signed the first ever exclusive UK cigar brand distribution deal for Arturo Fuente’s entire stable of award winning vitolas. He has also created an incredible line of custom, over-sized humidors that he personally had designed and crafted to match his impeccable standards. As if he didn’t already have enough on his plate, Guy persevered through the arduous process of creating a few of his own handmade cigars like the comically named Flying Pig, which we will be reviewing in the next couple of weeks. After a meet and greet and a great Bolivar, one fact is clearly evident, this man is wildly passionate about the fine art that is cigar making. As a firm believer in giving his customers the absolute best quality smokes for the best price, he has spent the last 18 years carving out a canyon in the marketplace where few others could even begin to scratch the surface.
It goes without saying that most consumers here in America will probably never have the opportunity to visit the fine establishment, but don’t worry; his expertly crafted and easily navigable website takes online orders and ships internationally. Do yourself a favor and quickly get familiar with this behemoth of a company that will most assuredly be regularly on the tips of tongues here in America over the course of the next few months.
