Review: La Flor’s New Diadema Duo

Review: La Flor’s New Diadema Duo

La Flor Dominicana has been on a roll this year and with their new small batch sticks just around the corner they haven’t left their fans hanging during the the usual industry downtime period. If you haven’t tried it yet their Air Bender Maduro is fantastic as well as their limited edition Colorado Oscuro, which we reviewed here. Also new to a LFD shelf near you is a sure-to-be-hit this Holiday season, the Diadema Duo.

The Diadema Duo, if you haven’t heard, is a boxed pair of two gorgeous looking cigars. One of the Diademas is a natural habano Nicaraguan wrapper while the other is a maduro habano Nicaraguan ligero wrapper, both are Dominican binder and filler.  The pair of cigars are nestled in a gorgeous wood coffin with the simple script of La Flor Dominicana Diadema Duo inscribed on the lid and side of the coffin.

The long and short of these lengthy smokes is that they’re good. I was expecting there to be a fair amount of flavor contrasts between the two different wrapper styles, but to be honest there really wasn’t. Both the Maduro and natural cigars tended to have even burns, a firm to tight draw (chalk that one up to the length and filler pack), and a barnyard foot. The chief flavor profiles of both of the cigars was a mild grassy note with a medley of mild wood notes and spice notes. The variances in the four cigars I smoked (two of each) were essentially that the maduro tended to smoke a little spicer while the natural was a little more subdued. Both of them due to length and amount of tobacco tend to be a medium + in strength, and an easy hour and a half to two hour plus smoke.

La Flor Dominicana has created a unique and pleasant package that is appealing to both the Holiday shopper and cigar enthusiasts looking for the next “new” thing to try. While I can’t say the Diadema is my favorite LFD, it certainly was enjoyable and had solid construction throughout. I would like to see a better draw in them, but part of that issue is just in relationship to the length the smoke has to travel. If you are a fan of the next “new” thing and looking for something different to try, then the Diadema Duo offers a great conversation piece, ample amounts of smoking time, and a solid medley of flavors for the enthusiast to be excited about!

It’s truly very complicated in this active life to listen news on TV, therefore I just use world wide web for that reason, and get the latest information.
