Review: La Flor Dominicana’s Colorado Oscuro Limited Edition

La Flor is a name that I traditionally associate with strength. Many of their lines are boldly potent and unless you have prepared yourself for a “full-body” experience you could, and might possibly find yourself hurting from the experience. Don’t get me wrong, they are wonderful cigars, they just also happen to be very potent. So as I looked at the gorgeous looking LFD Colorado Oscuro Limited Edition I steeled myself for what I figured was an impending ballet of taste and strength.

To my pleasant shock the Oscuro LE was an extremely well balanced cigar. It was tempered with far more sweetness than it was with full out strength. The Colorado Oscuro features a gorgeous Ecuadorian Sumatran wrapper leaf with a Dominican Sumatran binder, and Nicaraguan and Dominican filler. As I inspected the cigar I noticed a firm pack and smooth but firm draw that revealed a foot of sweet hay.

As I lit the cigar and began the smoking experience I was welcomed by spice, leather and a sweet, almost dry, floral aroma. It is quite pleasant and I enjoyed the fact that in all of the Oscuro LE’s I have smoked, the spice is in harmonic unison with the sweet notes. I am definitely a sucker for sweet and floral/ wood notes, and this cigar delivers in spades.

The Oscuro LE continues to pour out ample smoke and maintains a tight mottled grey and white ash throughout the smoking experience. By the midpoint the Oscuro LE has mellowed into a sweet floral note with the spice almost completely gone. This lasts for a while until the final third rolls around and reveals a spicy floral note that once again has hints of leather intermixed. Throughout the experience the Oscuro LE smoked and maintained wonderfully with no noticeable tunneling or excessive heat issues.

The Colorado Oscuro LE by La Flor Dominicana is a solid limited edition for the company and is a definite must for those who enjoy a sweet and spicy cigar. While strength is present it is never overpowering and comes in at a solid medium+. So if you’re looking for bold flavor, a medium to full body strength cigar, and some spice, then the Colorado Oscuro LE by La Flor Dominicana is a great cigar that simply can’t be overlooked!
