Padilla & Oliva Reveal Future Plans
Just a little over a month ago we sat down with Ernesto Padilla and talked with him about his plans for his company and his reintroduction to the brick and mortar market. One of the admitted challenges Ernesto faced was building up a national sales force to promote and place his product line. Well, as of September 10th, the official announcement through Cigar Aficionado was made that Padilla Cigars will now be distributed in the States and abroad by Oliva Cigar Company.
Padilla, in his exclusive with CA, mentioned his excitement for this new partnership and how he’s looking forward to the future relationship he will continue to have with Oliva. As of right now, Padilla’s diversified portfolio will continue to stay diversified. In other words, his brands that are being made by El Titan de Bronze will continue to be made by them, but the distribution will now be executed by Oliva.
We here at Cigar Brief wanted to dig a little further into this new distribution deal and reached out to Ernesto about a few of our own burning questions. The first question we had of Ernesto was, “What new tobacco access, if any, would this deal secure for him?” According to Ernesto, “the new arrangement with Oliva will give great access to Padilla brand blending.” He went on to add that “The Oliva company has some of the world’s largest inventories of premium aged tobaccos” and that ideally he would love to maybe one day “use one of the Oliva farms in Nicaragua exclusively for growing special tobaccos for Padilla blends.”
Naturally, this leads to a second question; what future plans and collaborations Padilla has in mind with Oliva? While Ernesto wouldn’t go into too much detail, he did say that he is working on a “special Padilla Connecticut blend” hopefully coming out early next year. Padilla is certainly excited about this project and his new distribution deal with Oliva. Ernesto, during our conversation, summed up his new relationship best when he said, “the Oliva family has always believed in the Padilla brand and this is proof.” He further went on to say that “for the end consumer, it’s a union of two Cuban families with a passion for the culture of cigars and that means great new innovative blends to come.”
