Oliva Serie V Melanio Torpedo
The Oliva V Melanio was one the most anticipated new blends introduced at this year’s IPCPR tradeshow. The original Oliva V is a flavorful, attractive cigar with a mahogany wrapper, sweet spiciness and enough body to maintain the interest of many cigar enthusiasts. The new Melanio is box pressed with a wrapper more like milk chocolate in color, sporting a secondary band emblazoned with MELANIO.
This torpedo is firm and well constructed, the wrapper is smooth with no prominent veins, with a slight sheen yet dry to the touch, the color a bit mottled and uneven. Tobacco flower and leather notes were present on the wrapper while the foot exhibited weak tea and dry hay. The cold draw gave off a slight, musty basement note and little else. The draw was perfection!
When we sampled the Melanio at IPCPR, we all commented on the aroma. In an enormous hall with literally hundreds of smoldering cigars, the Melanio stood out. Tobacco flower and leather with sweet spice filled the room once again as my torpedo produced thick blue clouds of smoke.
The first burst is pepper, a mix of black and white were obvious with subtle sweetness at the first light, with old leather and dry earth as back-notes, the burn , was slow and even with crisp lines and a light grey ash. After the first third the pepper had subsided and the honey sweetness and leather came forward. The body started out a solid medium and built to a medium-plus with the strength keeping pace.
The middle third marked the return of the pepper along with a bold mix of spices and a build in power to a solid full. A note of orange peel joined the other flavors, adding to the complexity and richness. From puff to puff the plethora of flavors vied for my attention, making for an interesting and varied experience.
This cigar begs to be smoked slowly and will remain cool throughout it’s length, and should hold the interest of even the most discerning aficionado for a solid hour and forty-five minutes. I’ll be cellaring some boxes myself in the various sizes! While not the thriftiest smokes out there, they are certainly not priced above their grade and at only ten to a box, well worth your consideration.

sounds fun
Olivia makes a nice cigar. In fact I smoked one this morning. It was a Olivia G I found it to be rich and favorable. I always enjoy Olivia with a cup of coffee, with the coffee being slightly lighter in color than the Olivia it truly makes a much desirable experience. So therefore I will be looking forward to it again and again. Of like to thank the people responsible for rolling these cigars personally, for they have some of the best rolled most consistent smokes out there. I’ve not got to try the the Olivia V

Best of luck!
Good Luck this time Carlos!
I don’t think my B&M has these.. I really want to try them too!
So far every Oliva V i’ve tried has been fantastic, I can’t wait to taste the new melanio line. So far everyone seems to be raving about them.
Thanks for posting the review!
Easily the best of the Olivia brand, and one of my favorite cigars. If only they were cheaper/easier to get ahold of Nice review.
Looking forward to this one! Thx for the review!
Love this cigar. Had the petite corona; so much flavor! Not to mention I friggin’ love the regular V too
Will definitely have to try one of these!
Great review! I love the Oliva V line and am dying to get a 5er of Melanios.
Would love to try these!
Melanio sounds worthy of a try!
Awesome giveaway, put me in!!
I have always been a fan of the Oliva V, especially the Reserva. I will be interested to try these!
Would this go good with a Pepper Vodka??
The pepper should be fine, but it really depends on the vodka. I wouldn’t sully the Melanio experience with anything sub-par. I tend to stick with the grain based vodkas over the potato based ones.
I have smoked several Oliva cigars and have not received a bad smoke yet. This Melanio is no different!!
I love this cigar!
I’ve tried some Olivas but haven’t got around to the Melanio yet, now it seems I have to!
I’m not a big Oliva fan, but this cigar sounds really good. I hope to try some soon!
I am seeing A LOT of reviews on this stick. Guess I am going to have to find one and give it a shot.
