La Grande Classe
Dion Giolito founder and owner of Illusione Cigars has been working on a special project for some time now. Its a special release for his cigar store in Reno, Nevada, Fumare. According to the Fumare website La Grande Classe is designed to be…
a true small-batch run of cigars made with superior grade tobaccos in both unique sizes, and different flavor profiles. Le Grande Classe is an extremely rare product at the highest caliber of performance, flavor and construction.”
This particular project has a short run of only 470 boxes of 25. Fumare’s website goes on to explain that this particular cigar is designed to have a rich and spicy body. While much of the La Grande Classe’s stats remain a mystery, we do know that the wrapper is a San Andreas Sun Grown Maduro and the binder and filler are Nicaraguan and sourced from the legendary Aganorsa farms.
Well needless to say, we couldn’t resist and we bought a box. Over the last week we have been enjoying our La Grande Classe stock and have found it to be a rich cigar with a tremendous amount of flavor out of the gate. The following is our assessment of this great cigar thus far.
The first thing one notices about the La Grande Classe is its nondescript white box packaging and a simple sticker that seals the cellophane surrounding the cigar that says “La Grande Classe.” Inspecting the cigar reveals a super firm body with gorgeous cocoa brown wrapper. When I explored the cigar’s foot with my olfactory senses I picked up notes of ammonia, sweet raisin, and barnyard. Clipping the cap revealed a smooth draw with only a hint of resistance.
Lighting up the cigar revealed an almost instantaneous burst of flavor. Typically there is a slow burn and build to the first flavor notes, but with the La Grande Classe there is no lag, the flavor is simply there from the get-go. The initial notes of the cigar are that of sweet cocoa and figs. As the first part of the cigar continues to unfold, these notes continue to interplay across the palate in magnitudes of increased strength and flavor. La Grande Classe is a cigar of excellent construction and ample smoke, as I worked my way towards the midpoint I was impressed by its even burn and cool construction.
As the midpoint developed and ultimately transitioned into the final third; the La Grande Classe’s notes transition into a spicier profile with a floral and hickory note. The cigar finishes with this strong flavor profile and maintains a cool burn throughout. Smoking the La Grande Classe was an enjoyable experience. At every step of the journey I was greeted with robust flavors and a superb flavor profile. This cigar is a limited production item and as such, I highly reccomend that if you have an interest in it, you reach out to Fumare ASAP. The La Grande Classe will definitely disappear quickly, so if you are a fan of a medium + cigar with full flavor, then don’t delay and hunt these bad boys down today.
