IPCPR Update: Gran Habano STK Opium Review

IPCPR Update: Gran Habano STK Opium Review

New at the show this year is Gran Habano’s STK Opium. The Opium is set to release after the STK Zulu Zulu, but we were able to get our hands on a few and try them out at the show today. True to the STK format they are not going to release all of the info that goes into the blend, but here is what we can tell you.

As far as our experience went, Opium was a flavorful cigar of medium strength. The foot had the typical barnyard aroma that many cigars have these days, and it had a pleasing draw. As I lit the cigar there was an initial spice rush that lasted for the first fourth and then was slowly tempered by a sweet floral note. The cigar, despite it’s darker complexion,  was rather contrary in it’s flavor profile. One would think that the cigar would be a medium plus or full bodied cigar, but it really stayed more in the medium range, and reminded us of a Connecticut in that it had some mellow aspects. The cigar as my compatriot Jay pointed out tasted like a “cross between a Connecticut and Habano.”

Overall the flavor profile was consistently sweet and floral with some hints of leather and spice throughout. The Gran Habano STK Opium is an enjoyable smoke that would make a welcome addition to the Humidor. So if you are a fan of a medium bodied cigar that has a mellow sweet floral note throughout with some hints of leather, then this cigar is right up your alley!
