So as one might expect when including the name Johnnie Walker in a conversation about cigars, it’s really hard not to recommend a glass of Blue Label. However, to be quite honest at over 200 dollars a bottle it’s just a bit hard to swallow, no matter how smooth it is. Remember, it is still a blended scotch whiskey. Luckily for the rest of us normal folk they also produce a Gold Label, aged 18 year, which would actually be a far better fit for most cigar smoking folk. Supposedly, the story goes, that during the early stages of development a bottle of the newly crafted Gold Label was left outside on a bitterly cold evening. The next day when the creators returned they found their cryogenically aged bottle and sampled it only to discover that the viscosity of the alcohol had actually changed and had developed a very sweet honey note. Now I don’t know if the story is true or not but one thing is for sure, I tried it both frozen and room temperature and there is definitely a difference in the level of sweetness that would really complement a bold cigar profile nicely. So if you are trying to impress or just looking for a good spirit to complement your cigar, then look no further than the Johnnie Walker Gold Label!
