Budweiser Black Crown Amber Lager

Budweiser Black Crown Amber Lager

budweiser black crownAccording to recent sales figures, Anheuser-Busch’s Budweiser Platinum was a monster success.  Bud Platinum sold 1 million barrels in 5 months, to amass a staggering 1 percent share of all U.S. beer sales.  Hoping they can catch lighting in a bottle for a second time, Anheuser has created another addition to its line of American Lagers.  This time, their hopes rest on Budweiser Black Crown.  Budweiser Black Crown is a golden amber lager that, like Budweiser Platinum, weighs in at solid 6.0 ABV.

The most notable attribute of the Black Crown is its color.  You certainly don’t expect to see bronze hued liquid coming from a can sporting a Budweiser label.  In a glass, the Black Crown has a rich amber color.  On the nose, the Black Crown is definitely a Budweiser; brandishing a slight lager scent backed by a mild beechwood aroma.

Budweiser Black CrownAs far as the flavor is concerned, the Budweiser Black Crown is richer and smoother than any of its brethren.  However, even though the flavor is bolder and more pronounced by comparison, it still falls a bit flat across the pallet.  Uniquely, Budweiser’s typical beechwood bitterness is greatly muted resulting in a better finish than other Budweiser products.  Compared to the Platinum, the Black Crown is far less bitter and has more dynamic flavors.

If you’re not really into the heavy craft beer trend and you prefer to stick with an old favorite, then the Budweiser Black Crown might be a nice change of pace while staying in your comfort zone.  Between the Platinum, Project 12, and now the Black Crown, its clear Budweiser is making an attempt to branch out and reach previously untapped audiences.

Overall, with a richer body and less bitterness than anything else offered in the Budweiser stable of beers, the Black Crown is definitely worth a try.  It may not be an earth shatteringly new experience, but it is certainly a nice departure from the status quo and an interesting addition that hopefully leads Budweiser further down the rabbit hole that is craft beer.   According to our sources, Budweiser Black Crown amber lager will be available across all retail markets starting sometime in late January 2013.

There are so many better beers out there than anything Bud puts out… You want an “amber lager”? Try a maibock, or even better, get adventurous and get a doppelbock. Or… try a brown or black lager. Shiner makes a great black lager. Don’t buy this piss water. Surely an aficionado web site like this one would want to promote artfully made beers and spirits, instead of mass produced piss like this crap.

Point taken NewTexian, but as a site that covers all things alcohol, like it or not, a new product from a company that sells more beer than all the beer you’ve mentioned combined, is news. Like I said, this won’t be the next great thing for those who have been initiated into the world of craft beers, but it will still turn some heads in the mass market and we’re here to tell people what’s on the horizon. Good suggestions though!! Doppelbocks have always been a personal favorite.

I may try it, if someone offers me some. Won’t buy even a 6 pack as Bud has not been a favorite ever. My Uncle drove a Bud truck in Chicago and I would drink Bud with him. It always gave me a headache. I love the small brewers dark beers.
