Mixin’ it Up: The Classic Margarita!

Mixin’ it Up: The Classic Margarita!

Lets face it my friends, summer is here. If you live in a hot climate, like I do, then you are probably spending plenty of time hiding indoors away from the blistering sun. But what if there was a beverage that allowed you to beat the heat? What if  there was a relaxing beverage that allowed you to relax by the pool, even on the hottest of days? Well in that case look no further! I have the perfect beverage to beat the summer heat: the Margarita! The margarita is a classic mexican beauty that can be served on the rocks, or frozen. Throughout the years the margarita has grown to become one of the most popular cocktails in the world. Originating in Mexico, the exact history of the margarita is unknown, but there are some romantic legends of a bartender in mexico inventing the drink and then naming it after his beloved girlfriend. However it happened, this thirst quencher has since become  the quintessential drink to beat the summer heat. Below is my preferred recipe for the classic margarita:

1 1/2 ounces of tequila ( El Tesoro platinum, Patron silver, or Hornitos should do the trick )

1/2 ounce of Cointreau

1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice

1/2 ounce simple syrup

lime wedge for garnish

kosher salt for rimming ( if desired )

Mixing it:

Rim a margarita glass with salt
( use lime juice to make the salt stick).
Add ice to the glass

Shake the liquid ingredients in a shaker with ice
Strain into a glass
Garnish with lime

or you can really cool it down a notch by add ing the ingredients to a blender with ice for a frozen margarita.

There you have it. A one way ticket to margaritaville. Drink well my friends!
